So, what's Nu?

04/19/08 Spring springeth; a new story be in the postings. Well, it's not new new, but it's new to Nu. Enjoy!

01/25/08 Happy new year and all that! And what would be more appropriate for the Year of the Rat than an anime review? Well, lots of things, probably, but that's what you get.

10/20/07 OK, this update comes with minor changes to the site's look-and-feel, but mainly it's to let any visitors know that things aren't abandoned entirely.

06/03/07 Notice: Please ignore the previous post. There is a lizard on my window at this very moment, searching for small bugs to eat or perhaps just enjoying the sun. In a development paradoxically related to the previous four months' neglect, the Administration of Nu have decided to attempt a new, theoretically recurring feature: A Reviews Page!

02/04/07 Another game has been posted in the relevant section. Another nonfiction essay (finally!) is also in the works, probably due to appear here in about a month.

01/21/07 We have art! The talented Ryan Armand was contracted a while back to add a little visual spice to Nu, and we're rather pleased with the results. Where are the pictures? Well, if you want to know, you'll have to find them, won't you? And maybe read the stories while you're at it. Oh, so sneaky!

12/10/06 I've added a little bit more CSS to the site; the menus should be cleaner now, among other things. Also, there's a poem up, related to the "Directions" story that went up a couple months ago. More changes are in the works, including artwork (as soon as the artist has been compensated) and a new item of possible interest.

10/29/06 In addition to another game up in the relevant section, the big news of right now is that the Nonfiction "archive" is now officially more than just a placeholder! That's right, there is a whole one essay up, filled with the lightest of whimsy and also the coldest of precise logics. Some other minor edits on the site but the landscaping is still, as of yet, abstract.

10/10/06 Having been counseled by multiple independent sources that my previous color scheme was, to put it delicately, not as easy on the eyes as it could have been, a crew of busy painters have rendered most of Nu monochrome for the time being. We hope to introduce something to please the sightseer later.

10/06/06 New online tests reveal new facets of the archivist's Gestalt! Also, a story is going up that, while a few years old, has previously not been ventured here because it's over 9000 words long. About half of it can currently be read, and the rest will go up soon. Story is online.

09/02/06 With the addition of a couple new games, the "Day Job" section now has enough material to not be a complete embarrassment. To any new visitors why may show up, I'd like to say that most of what goes up there is, I hope, going to be new, rather than the games you see all the time in JET productions.

08/17/06 The past month has seen the introduction of css and organization into folders, all of which should make very little cosmetic difference. Of greater interest, at least to certain visitors, will be the ESL games section. Although mainly for fellow JETters, others may find it of passing, mild interest from some anthropological point of view.

07/25/06 Other than a few updates to the html that, if done properly, should go undetected after the fact, the main point of interest today is two new poems. One is a bit old and looks forward; the other is newer but looks back. I'm hoping that despite their personal nature, they'll have meaning for people other than myself.

06/21/06 I have indeed added a new section for your reading pleasure. While it admittedly has obfuscated one of the older segments of Nu, this is part of our continuing eternal overhauls of the territory, and you may rest assured that no permanent damage is done. Other than that, some steps have been taken to bring Nu closer to an appearance pleasing to the eye. Please enjoy!

05/05/06 The links page is finally up! At this point, I consider Nu to be fully functional, if somewhat sparse. We'll be updated every now and then with new stories and, if I get ambitious, new sections every once in a blue moon. Perhaps even a major overhaul if the maintenance crews learn any new tricks. Please enjoy your stay, and do not taunt the Evil Eye. Thanks!

What is Nu?

Put simply, "nu" is my favorite Yiddish word. It's extremely multipurpose, and is one of those little conversational sounds that's easy to use but hard to translate. If my sources are correct it literally means "well," in the sense of the English conversational extra syllable rather than the sense of a hole in the ground, and comes from the Russian.
